HTC Touch

Hey Fellas!

I am back after a long time. I was busy with work at my professional front. I am sorry to all my readers for being invisible for so long. Few of you wrote back to me and that made me realize, I should be back!

Now let us focus on our topic – HTC Touch! So do you expect me to talk good about it? If yes, you are on the wrong page. I bought my HTC Touch on 7th October 2007 (7 Oct is my Bday!). I used it for say 6-7 months and was very happy. But then the problem started…

Let me give you a little detail of the handset for why I bought it at the first place.

HTC Touch was the next generation handheld device that has Windows Mobile 6.0 as an operating system. The small size and a slim looks –  a matt finished black color attracted me. The screen sensitivity is good too. You actually love touching it when it is the first time.  The screen is actually so good that I never used stylus while the phone was in working condition. It has an internal memory of 512 MB or something that I do not remember now. But you can use high capacity micro storage cards. The best thing you find about this device is the support for new application, ease while surfing the net, email services and lots of other goodies that you actually use.

Then after 6-7 months of usage the phone stopped talking. The speaker went for a toss!  Since the phone was still in the guarantee/ warranty period, I took it to the dealer who sent it to the service center. The service was okay and I got back the phone repaired without any cost. The twist is that though I did not use my earphones since I bought the phone, it also stopped working when the speaker of the phone died. But the service guy said that the headphone would not be repaired or replaced. Then I asked for a new one and I was taken aback to know the price of it. I dropped the idea and took the phone back with me.

Now I was all again happy to have my little device in my hand. But to my dismay it stopped switching on in another 9 months of usage. We check is back again and found that battery died. Alas! I though I would have bought Nokia instead. Anyhow, I did not have an option so bought a new battery @ Rs. 2200.

Sooner than later, phone again stopped switching on and then I took it back to the service center. The service guy told me that motherboard needs to be replaced. I left the phone and came back. After 1 month I got to know that the motherboard will cost me somewhere around INR 12000! Interesting, isn’t it…

I called off and asked him not to replace and I will take the phone back without repairing. Now when I went to take my phone back, the so sensitive good working screen was destroyed. I did not know what to say. Finally that guy took the responsibility of changing it back and replacing it with a new one. I left the phone so that the screen be replaced. I got a call after 2 days that the motherboard would cost me 4500 bucks. How is this possible? Did I impress them so much that they gave me a straight discount of INR 7500. This is impossible. But then I thought, let me get it repaired.

But today it is exactly 2 months that I gave the phone to them. I did not get it back even though I am ready to pay. They say, motherboard is not available.

There are 3 aspects to this  now -

  1. The product is so bad that you should not go for it at the first place.
  2. If at all you decided that you will take the risk, think twice! The parts are too costly. Even the battery.
  3. If you surpass the above two points, be ready to face the bad service and unavailibility of parts.

Now you know, why should you ever go for HTC. It sucks!
