It is 10 am EST 31st May 2010 here at JFK International Airport, NY. I am sitting in a telephone booth and typing this. I am here at Terminal 4 since 29th May. I never thought in my life that I would spend 2 nights and two days in an airport terminal and still counting. Hopefully I will get a flight tonight.

You must be curious for why I am spending my days and nights in an airport terminal. So here goes the story -

While on the runway on 29th May, pilot of our Etihad Airways flight number EY100 from NY to Abu Dhabhi detected that one of the engine is not working properly. We were in the aircraft for 4 hours and then finally they cancelled the flight. Since then I am sitting in this terminal and enjoying my time doing nothing.

This is one of the worst and one of a kind experience. Etihad guys did not arrange for an accommodation even if it was their responsibility. On top of that they were not taking responsibility for connecting flight from Abu Dhabi to Mumbai. This made the situation even worse. They re-booked me on British Airways that for some reasons denied boarding for me. So I just missed a flight back home.

I am looking for possibilities to get out of here. Fortunately I got internet connection and I am able to connect to the world. I do not have a phone and only number I have for people to get in touch with me is this telephone booth at Terminal 4 – 001 718 374 8574.

I just looked outside through the glass wall and the weather is sunny and warm. A nice summer day in NY. I cannot go into the city and unable to get out of the country till next possible flight. Had a coffee and muffins. Running out of caffeine and nicotine very quickly. I am not sure till hoe long this ordeal is going to be. Just had a talk with Etihad guys and looks like I have a flight tonight at 11 pm EST.

Wishing for a safe return to my homeland!
