An alarm… Global warming needs attention!
I was sitting in the office facing some tough problems that are yet to be solved. I was shocked when I received an email saying there will not be any electricity supply in Pune for another 24 hours starting Thursday 6am. The ACs would be switched off. And we need to use computers to the minimum.
Currently there is acute shortage of diesel. All the housing societies, transport vendors and industrial houses have already stocked diesel to a larger extent that I hardly saw any diesel vehicle on road this morning. The acute shortage of diesel is because there are no rains. All the electricity produced in this state are from Hydro power stations. To run those we need ample of water in the dams. There is no rain and no water to produce electricity further. So there is an increase in the consumption of diesel.
Now the question here is how these are related to Global warming. So let me explain this. Since we are releasing large amount of green house gases (GHG) into the atmosphere leading to global warming and in turn shift in the weather trends. This shift is definitely undesirable. Now today it is almost an end to July. Monsoon reaches India on 1st June. There is no monsoon as evident from the shortage of rains. There are other places on this earth those are facing heavy rainfalls and that is away from the normal weather trends. Isn’t this an astonishing fact?
Now as there is lots of GHG in the atmosphere and earth is heating up and weather trends are shifting; there is no rain, no water, no electricity and finally no food to eat as agriculture is experiencing major set back.
This is an early alarm to the consequences of global warming. If we do not take these alarms seriously, we are going to ruin the future of the coming generation.
This problem of Global warming and its consequences is not political and not within the boundaries of any particular nation. We have seen melting of ice in Antarctica. We have faced Tsunami. We know how devastating hurricane Katrina was. All these do not see the boundaries that we have on the world map. If this continues, surely someday we need to redraw the world map. So how do the boundaries and nations matter? We need to work together to tackle this problem. All the nations and every citizen of all these nations need to work to STOP GLOBAL WARMING.
Alarm will come once, we will put it off. It will come twice, we will snooze it. It will come thrice we will not listen to it. And finally we would not be alarmed. We will face the bitter truth that probably is out of imagination.
